    Characters

One piece of advice I received from my professor during this project stuck with me when creating these characters. Successful sets of character designs often use variation in scale. When interacting, the differences complement each other and create visual interest, and create natural pathways to explore the characters’ attitudes towards each other. I created the first two bots with a “small and large” in mind, still not really knowing how the story would go. Later in production, I added in the huge bot at the end as the final payoff to the story, continuing to play with the idea of scale. The final result ended up as almost a horror ending, which isn’t where I first thought the story would go, but was a fun and natural feeling conclusion that emerged through the character design itself.

    Inspiration / Reference

The 2022 indie video game Cult of the Lamb has a unique visual style that became the inspiration for this project. Among a set of alternative designs I first proposed, this one resonated most with me for its unique thematic juxtaposition of cute animals in a dark setting; a visual identity that taught me how to blend distinct styles and continues to inspire my design choices today.

    AAU Spring Show 2025 Poster

This project was awarded best in VFX LookDev Hard Surface for the Academy of Art University’s 2025 Spring Awards. I created a breakdown poster showcasing my process from the concept art I received to the final render. It was always a dream of mine to have my work displayed, and I was lucky enough to get to see it in person.
